Child Marriage is a widely prevalent problem among waste-pickers. While children are considered to be helping hands at work, girls are often married off young. Educating the girl child would make her less eligible to marriage as it would be difficult to find a groom of equal or high education qualification. Hence, girls are married off at a young age.

In 2001 we started a scheme to promote education among our girls. “Shiksha ki Shikshan” was launched  to end child marriage among our girls and ensure that they are educated. The scheme has a cash prize for girls who are unmarried and studying at the age of 18. Since 2005, 49 girls have been felicitated under this.
